At least half of the population in the US will eventually catch some form of skin cancer throughout their lifetime. Although going to a skin cancer treatment in Salt Lake City can help you lessen the chances of acquiring such condition, it’s always better to know how to prevent it from occurring.

Here are a few tips from Brian J. Williams, M.D. on how to prevent skin cancer.

1. Be mindful of glass windows

Although several people assume that windows can filter ultraviolet light, it’s not usually the case for all types of glass windows. A car’s windshield can efficiently deflect both UVB and UVA rays coming from the sun, but the side windows can only deflect UV light.

Although UVA won’t cause any burns on your skin, constant exposure can cause skin cancer. You may want to install a UV filter on the side windows to add more protection to the glass.

2. Stay away from the midday sun

The sun’s UV rays are at its most potent from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. So, you might want to keep away from the sun’s heat or from any outdoor activities during those times. It’s always best to have some sunscreen on while wearing sunglasses or long sleeves to protect your skin from sun exposure.

3. Check your skin regularly

Going to a dermatologist every year to do some routine screenings is a great idea. But you can always do some basic screenings on your own. You may want to watch out for any new spots or dark pimples that have been on your skin for more than a month.
